Abstract: Previous research has discussed how a multitude of demographic factors impact abortion opinion without isolating marital status. This research project seeks to answer the question: What is the relationship between marital status and opinion on abortion restrictions? Is this relationship still significant after controlling for demographic factors of age, gender, and race? The sample data is drawn from the 2024 American National Election Studies (ANES) and includes 4,846 U.S. citizens age 18 or older. ANOVA and post hoc tests revealed a significant relationship between opinion on abortion restrictions and some marital status groups; the relationship remained significant after controlling for age, race, and gender. These results are important because they investigate the isolated impact of marital status on voters’ abortion opinions, but further research is needed to examine the larger implications and impacts on non-voters.
