Emily Krauss

I am a first year student at Wesleyan University from Eugene Oregon. I am planning on double majoring in Government and Economics and am also a member of the women’s varsity volleyball team.

Abstract: Currently the United States is facing a mental health crisis, that was exacerbated by COVID-19. In particular suicide levels of NCAA student athletes have doubled in the past 20 years (CNN, 2024). In this study I attempt to compare the relationship between high school sports participation, self reported mental health levels over the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition we also look to see if this relationship differs by Gender. This uses the data from the Adolescent Behaviors and Experiences Survey which draws from high school students to see how COVID-19 affected students health and risk behaviors.
