Abstract:
Adolescent substance use remains a significant public health concern, particularly in relation to psychological risk factors. This study examines the association between marijuana and alcohol use and exposure to neighborhood violence among U.S. adolescents, while also examining the role of depression on that relationship. This study will examine the ever-changing relationship between adolescent substance use, mental health issues, and how our environments affect our day-to-day life. While both neighborhood violence and depression are significantly associated with substance use, the direction of these relationships suggests the need for further investigation into possibly confounding or moderating variables and potential risk factors.
