Abstract: Scientific literature on adolescent health during the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted increases in screen time alongside rising concerns about body image and disordered eating behaviors. Conceptual frameworks and prior research suggest that weight perception plays a critical role in shaping weight-related behaviors, often independent of actual weight. Using data from the 2021 Adolescent Behaviors and Experiences Survey (ABES), this analysis explores how adolescents who feel discontent with their weight differ in behavior from those who feel content, and whether higher screen time use intensifies these patterns. Additional factors including biological sex, mental health, and weekly exercise are also considered as potential influences. Overall, this paper investigates the relationship between weight perception and weight-loss attempts among adolescents and examines whether screen time moderates this association.
